"No matter what you are thinking, if you don't say it, it can't be acknowledge by others." ~ Daidouji Tomoyo
Cardcaptor Sakura has been on my list for the longest time. I love Mahou Shoujo series and Cardcaptor Sakura is made by the legendary CLAMP, so I went knowing I would have a good time, but I didn't expect Sakura to steal my heart.
Kinomoto Sakura is a sweet 10-year-old girl attending to Tomoeda Elementary School. Within her dad's library, she finds a mysterious book titled "The Clow". Upon opening it, a small, winged creature comes out of the book and introduces itself as Keroberos (which would then be nickanmed Kero-san by Sakura), the Creature of the Seal who guards magical cards known as the Clow Cards. However, they have escaped the book, and Sakura is tasked to retrieve all the cards to the book. Alongside her best friend Tomoyo, she goes around Tomoeda fixing the problems that the cards have caused while Tomoyo captures everything on tape while Sakura is wearing dazzling outfits made by Tomoyo herself.
Cardcaptor Sakura is not only about Magical Girls and the Clow cards, is a story about feelings and friendship. And I'm aware that me saying this make it look like a cliche, but I think this one is different, they talk about it in a very unique and warm way. It's endearing to see Sakura talk about her feelings and seeing others around expressing their feelings, not only to Sakura but around her. It is somewhat difficult to talk about this aspect of the series, or even the series in general without spoiling much about it, but I'll try...
Sakura is very naive and carefree, an aspect of her that paired with her personality and cuteness manage to steal everyones heart, but, not in the romantical way. Everyone likes Sakura and they like spending time with her, and she also likes spending time with others, making chocolates, talking with them, goingn around with them to do some shopping.
Her older Brother, Toya, which is best-friends with Sakura's older love interest, Yukito, also shows her love for Sakura, but their love is portrayed in a different way, he likes to pick on her when he has times, but he is still there whenever she needs and most of the time he goes out of his way to help or take care of Sakura, getting up earlier than her to make breakfast, since she usually wakes up late for school, making sure to remember things that she likes, setting up encounters with Yukito for her (spoilers)(even though he is also his love interest), and even after working for most of the series to buy his dream motorbike, he still uses his bike to go to school, since he knows Sakura will try to keep up with him in the way, and he doesn't want Sakura to go to hard on herself and end up falling neither stay too close to a moving motorbike, since it's dangerous.
These are only two examples of the different ways that the series likes to portray love and emotions in the series, but there are several more ways. I would really appreciate if you gave this series a try if you like a good shoujo story.
I really loved the experience of this series, I might go back and change this entry later or make another page where I can talk more freely about it but. 10/10
